Savoy IL



Located just south of Champaign, the village of Savoy was officially incorporated in 1956 and is named after Princess Maria Clotilde of Savoy, who visited the area back in 1861.  With a population of 8,551, Savoy is the perfect combination of having the opportunities and resources that a larger city has to offer, as well as maintaining a small midwestern charm that any family can feel proud of calling home.

 

Parks and Recreation in Savoy Illinois

Savoy is home to many wonderful parks that display the community pride that it’s residents are so fond of.  The parks offer amenities such as various athletic courts/fields, sand volleyball, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, walking paths and much more.  The Savoy Recreation Center also offers residents programs and fitness expertise.  There are classes held annually for both children and adults that include art, music, martial arts, basketball, volleyball, self-defense, etc.  Families can also take advantage of events such as a daddy-daughter dance, bingo and trick-or-treating.        

The University of Illinois is a five-minute drive from town and offers the community many activities and experiences such as museums and retreat centers.  The University of Illinois Golf Course is open to the public and contains two 18-hole courses for guests to choose from.  Open from July – December, Curtis Orchard and Pumpkin Patch.  The pumpkin patch has so much more to offer than just pumpkins.  Families can also pick over 30 varieties of apples, visit the petting zoo, play mini-golf, tackle the rope and corn mazes, ride ponies and much more.  There is also an event space available to rent. 

 

Savoy Illinois School/Health/Transportation

Champaign Community Unit School District No. 4 serves all of the children in Savoy.  There are a total of 10,179 students in the district as well as 13 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools.  Rated as one of the top ten most diverse districts in the state and is the #2 district in Champaign county, the children are provided with ample opportunities and resources to help them succeed.  Also located in next door Champaign is The University of Illinois.  A part of the Big 10 conference, the university is often considered to be one of the top 50 public universities in the country.  It is most known for its engineering program and its correlating research.  There is also Parkland College, another college located in Champaign that enrolls about 18,000 students annually.    

The two hospitals that cater to Savoy, located in the Champaign area, are Carle Foundation Hospital and OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center.  Both hospitals offer patients a state-of-the-art Emergency Room, birthing clinic, cancer center and much more.  When needing to fly out of town, travelers can take advantage of the University of Illinois - Willard Airport, which flies to both O’Hare International and Dallas Fort – Worth.  From there, passengers can get to anywhere in the world.  There is also an Amtrak station located in Champaign for those choosing not to travel by airplane.

 

Shopping/Dining Options in Savoy Illinois

There are many restaurants both in and around Savoy that offer its residents diverse and highly rated options.  Smoky's BBQ is a town favorite and serves delicious burgers and BBQ and is known to have impeccable service.  For a trendy stop in town, look no further than Triptych Brewing, Savoy’s very own brewery.  They offer tours, have a full taproom and on weekends offer their patrons food from the best food trucks in town.  For another brewpub experience, Destihl is located minutes away in Champaign and has a full menu that includes items such as stone oven pizzas, Thai chicken, unique salads and more.  Voted as the “best dessert in the BIG 10”, Jarling's Custard is a must for any sweet tooth.  They use fresh, locally sourced ingredients that are made daily.

Savoy has wonderful antique boutiques in town that offer shoppers anything from clothing to home décor.  Both Briella's Boutique and Timeless Treasures are located in town and sell unique, one-of-a-kind items for everyone in the family.  For those looking for more mainstream shopping, Market Place Shopping Center includes stores such as Carter’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and The Gap, among many other national retailers selling jewelry, clothing, and accessories.
