Mount Zion, IL

Known for it's beautiful natural surroundings and family oriented atmosphere, Mt. Zion is a prosperous village in Macon county.  The perfect place to raise a family.  Here you get the convenience of having stores you’d find in the big city, but without living on top of one another, and with an abundance of natural beauty.  There is no shortage of parks and outdoor activities; fun for every age.  Dewitt County Go Kart is a favorite amongst children and adults alike.  If you’re craving a little more speed, head on over to Cerro Gordo or Mid-State Speedway.

Too much noise and testosterone for you?  Well, then enjoy what Mt. Zion is truly known for; Great outdoor parks!  Grab a picnic basket and head to Big Creek Park.  You could make a pit stop at the Foresyth Public Library or the Mt. Zion District Library and grab a good read, then head on over to Spitler Woods Nature Preserve, because there really isn’t a better more tranquil place to kick back and relax with a book. Shelbyville Lake is a great place to cool off on a hot summer day.  And when you’ve finally experienced the charm of all the Mt. Zion Parks, you could head over to the near by Fort Daniel Conservation Area, and explore more.

The fun isn’t only outdoors.  Aside from the great restaurants, bars, and cafes;  Shamrock Pub, Elmer's O'Le Time Inn, Bennigan's Grill & TavernSteep and Brew Cafe, (some of the favorites) there are a number of great museums.  The Douglas County Museum is a favorite in the village and if History is more your thing, there is the Oliver P Parks Telephone Museum and the Monticello Railway Museum.
