Mahomet, IL Homes for Sale

Founded in 1832, Mahomet was the first community settled in Champaign County.  Settlers came from many different states to build a home in Mahomet, lured there mainly due to an abundance of water and trees.  It has been said that it was originally named “Middletown” because of its proximity between Danville and Bloomington.  The village was eventually named Mahomet because there was already a town named Middletown in Illinois and there were many issues with mail delivery.  Today, Mahomet has seen an increase in its business district, thanks to the nearby University of Illinois.
