Located in the heart of Champaign/Urbana, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

is one of our nation's best public universities. It is not only a great institution of higher learning for the students that attend it but also helps to strengthen our community. We are incredibly proud of the academic and extracurricular achievements of UI students.

Did you know that the University of Illinois is home to one of the world’s top ranked engineering programs? Come celebrate the innovative work and research completed by remarkable UI engineering students at the Engineering Open House 2017: Illuminate New Horizons this Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th!

Since the 1920s, this FREE event has become a highlight for the community every year. It is open to all ages and offers fun programming both days for students and community members to explore all areas related to science and engineering while showcasing the work of the university's students. Here's a list of the weekend's events that you cannot miss!

On Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, check out the 250 Student Exhibits in the Engineering Quad and other campus buildings. Overwhelmed by which exhibits to visit? Take a tour leaving every hour from the Visitor’s Booth on the south side of Grainger Library. The tour will take you to the biggest exhibits and will also be able to recommend exhibits to check out!

From 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, elementary and middle school students can Discover EOH! This fun scavenger hunt takes students on a journey to find the best exhibits. Participants will collect signatures as they explore and can receive a prize upon completion at the Engineering Council Office (103B Engineering Hall).

From 9:00 to 3:00 pm, all community members can participate in the Illini Engineering Challenge! This fun experience allows the public to join in on an onsite design challenge for a chance to win a prize!

There will be two special events held on Friday evening. At 7:00 pm, attend a lecture by Guest Speaker Vilas Dhar, a social impact investor and attorney, in the Grainger Auditorium (ECEB 1002). Stay for the Tesla Coil Concert at 8:30 pm for a stunning light show choreographed to renditions of everyone's favorite songs.

The Engineering Open House also allows area students to get involved with engineering and design. Local high school students are competing in the Engineering (Bard) Quad High School Design Competition. The teams have built a Rube Goldberg machine. Come check out all the amazing designs by these teams throughout the event at the I Hotel and Conference Center (1900 South 1st Street). On Saturday, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, 6th and 8th grade students can enter the Middle School Design Competition. Students are challenged to build a bridge. The winning bridge will have the best design and hold the most weight. This competition will take place at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building.

Come celebrate the achievements of our area's students and have fun learning more about science and engineering with our community. We cannot wait to see you at the Engineering Open House 2017!
