Champaign and Urbana: Best Small Cities to Start a Business!

by Rose Price

Interested in opening a new business in Illinois?

Starting a business is both a challenging and rewarding experience for entrepreneurs! One of the first things to think about is where do I build my company? It is a common misconception that big cities are the best places to start a new business, but depending on the type of business you are planning to run, BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER. Small cities offer some very unique advantages, such as lower overhead costs and deeper relationships with your customer base.

Reboot Illinois recently published an article about the Best Small CIties in Illinois to Start a Business. To uncover this list, analysts studied factors such as cost of living, corporate taxes, office space availability, number of start ups, etc.. at more than 1,200 small cities across the United States. We were thrilled to find out that both Champaign (#10) and Urbana (#24) were on this list! Both areas are wonderful communities with an outstanding local business presence!

If you are considering relocating your family or business to Central Illinois we would love to help you! Click here to see current homes for sale in Champaign and Urbana. You can also give us a call anytime, or visit our website: www.champaignrose.com

11 Small Towns Where Everyone Knows Your Name

by Rose Price

Is there anything better than walking into your local coffee shop and having the barista write your name on the cup without having to ask you? Ok ok, I get that this may seem trivial, but you do have to admit it is a wonderful feeling when the locals in your community all know you.  This month onlyinyourstate.com published a list about “11 small towns where everyone knows your name” in Illinois, and we were thrilled to see Tuscola and Monticello, two towns in our community, named!

But what makes these towns so special?

The list is as follows:

  1. Clarendon Hills, located outside of Chicago in Dupage County.

  2. Casey, known for its large construction projects.

  3. Cherry Valley, located in Boone County with a population of 3,000.

  4. Winchester, located in Scott County and known for its gorgeous courthouse.

  5. TUSCOLA, located in Scott County, and is our backyard, and known for its great outlet mall. Click here to view current homes for sale in Tuscola.

  6. MONTICELLO, is also located in our community! Click here to view current homes for sale in Monticello.

  7. Milford, located in Iroquois County and has a population of only 800.

  8. Ladd, located in Bureau County and was a former mining town.

  9. Hebron, located in McHenry County with a population of 1200.

  10. Galena, may get a lot of visitors but the locals still know you well.

  11. Benld, located in Macoupin County and is known as one of a small group of towns where an object was hit by a meteor.

Calling all Dog Owners! It's a beautiful springtime in Champaign and I'd like to invite you to bring your lovable furry family members and walk with me through our wonderful city parks!  It will give you  a chance to get some great bonding time in with your doggies, a bit of fresh air and exercise and learn some history about the fantastic Champaign City Parks!

I'm so excited for these walks with my Spaniels Simon and Pharis, so they can meet other buddies, and I can share my love of the city of Champaign!  We'll meet once a week at a City Park to go for our walk, and can stop at a Coffee Shop that allows for dogs on their patio for food and drink afterward.  The first walk is scheduled for Monday, March 16th at 7:00 am at West Side City Park in Champaign.

Happy New Year Champaign/Urbana From Champaignrose!

by Rose Price

With the New Year just around the corner, I want to say "THANK YOU" to all of our clients for making it another great year at Champaignrose-Landmark Real Estate! I love what I do and the town in which I live and work but..... getting to meet and work with clients like you is truly a blessing.

Each year as the New Year rolls in we are all faced with the thought of New Year's Resolutions. Sometimes we are psyched and have our lists ready to go, while other times we may be dreading the thought of them altogether. After reading through some great articles recently, I found it really comes down to this:

Resolutions should be made by us only if it is something that we truly want to change, learn or accomplish that will make us happier, healthier or have a positive impact on our lives. A resolution should never be made because someone in your life wants you to change something about yourself, or wants you to do something differently. The ONLY resolutions you make are the ones that impact you, and only you, on a POSITIVE level. Plain and simple.

Now the GREAT NEWS! When you make your resolutions, keeping this simple statement above in mind, your chances for success dramatically increase!! So let's get down to the nitty gritty!

  1. Think about what's most important to you and then get very specific when you list out each resolution. Next to each give your reason for the resolution in detail.
  2. Remember, you're being realistic, so make sure you have no more than 3-4 resolutions and make sure they are things that are attainable with reasonable timeframes.
  3. What is your "Plan of Attack" and how will you track & monitor your progress?
  4. What is the PRIZE for achieving your goal? This is really important because you need to be rewarded for achieving this important resolution!

                                        TOP RESOLUTIONS FOR 2015

We all know that starting off the New Year is easy and exciting and we are ready to ROCK our resolutions! But once February rolls around our commitment can start to wane, this is where your good habits need to take over and why having "good habits" is critical to the success of your resolutions.

Studies show that it's much easier to create "bad" habits than to cultivate good ones; we easily indulge in short-term pleasures like expensive cups of coffee and sugar-laden foods. The good news is, with frequent repetition, you can create new, constructive habits. Be patient with yourself, however; it can take several weeks for new habits to form. If you slip up for a day, just pick up where you left off. Don't give up! Build in "cheat" days for a diet plan, or an occasional shopping splurge for a savings plan, but ALWAYS go right back to your plan so you WILL reach your ultimate goal....your resolution.

I sincerely hope these tips help you reach your resolution goals during the New Year! And if buying or selling a home in Champaign/Urbana is among your goals for 2015, I'll be happy to help you!  I have the local market experience & knowledge to help you succeed and am here whenever you need me.

If you are new to Champaign/Urbana, I will be happy to be your guide and introduce you to our community! Whether you have questions about Champaign/Urbana real estate or you would like more information about our Award Winning Schools or community, please feel welcome to contact me today!
