More Champaign Area Christmas Events!

Jingle bells are ringing throughout Champaign/Urbana! Christmas is right around the corner. The area has been transformed into a winter wonderland filled with festive cheer. Spend these last couple weeks celebrating with everyone at these great Community Holiday Events occurring throughout the Champaign area!

 

 

Breakfast With Santa

Date: Saturday, December 10th

Time: 9:30 am - 11:00 am

Location: Douglass Community Center (512 East Grove Street, Champaign)

Cost: FREE!

Have a jolly breakfast with Santa! Enjoy delicious breakfast snacks and fun activities all morning. Register HERE.

 

Holiday Showcase

Dates: Saturday, December 10th - Monday, December 12th

Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Location: Allerton Park & Retreat Center (515 Old Timber Road, Monticello)

Cost: $10 per person (Showcase only), $28 per person (Showcase and Lunch)

Come to the beautiful Allerton Mansion for a day of festivities. The mansion is decorated with holiday cheer. Find unique gifts for everyone on your list from the artisans and businesses selling their products, crafts, and baked goods. There will be tours of the mansion from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm. Fill your bellies on complimentary cookies, tea, and coffee. Finish off your day with a carriage ride on the grounds. A special lunch buffet is also available for an additional charge. Holiday In Whoville

Date: Saturday, December 10th

Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Location: Virginia Theatre (203 West Park Avenue, Champaign)

Cost: $3 per person

Your children will love an afternoon in Whoville! Watch the classic Dr. Suess tale How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey. After the screening, enjoy caroling, photos with Santa, arts and crafts, and hot cocoa. There will also be trolley rides around West Side Park to marvel at the beautiful holiday lights. Snow Globe Saturdays

Dates: Saturday, December 10th and Saturday, December 17th

Time: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Location: Orpheum Children's Science Museum (346 North Neil Street, Champaign)

Cost: $5 per person (Members), $8 per person (Non-Members)

Marvel at the beauty of the winter wonderland in the Orpheum Theatre. There will be indoor snowball throwing and sledding as you dine on delicious holiday treats, make festive crafts, and so much more!

 

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Dates: Saturday, December 10th and Sunday, December 11th

Times: 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm (Saturday), 3:00 pm (Sunday)

Location: Harold and Jean Miner Theatre (2400 West Bradley Avenue, Champaign)

Cost: $15 per adult, $13 per senior and student, $9 per child

Good Grief! Celebrate the season with all your favorite Peanuts characters as you watch the classic animated television special come alive on stage! Afterwards, your children can meet all of the Peanuts! Reservations can be made HERE.

 

Best Christmas Movies Ever

Dates: Monday, December 12th - Saturday, December 17th

Time: 7:00 pm

Location: Virginia Theatre (203 West Park Avenue, Champaign)

Cost: $6 per film, $18 for series pass

Watch some of the most beloved classic Christmas movies of all time. During each screening, warm up with a complimentary cup of hot chocolate. See one film or see all four at a special discount price! The screening schedule is as follows:

Holiday Whodunit

Date: Saturday, December 17th

Location: Douglass Community Center (512 East Grove Street, Champaign)

Cost: $10 per person (Resident), $7.50 per person (Non-Resident)

Solve a fun, family friendly mystery at the North Pole! This mystery party is great for all ages. Participate in the mystery by being one of the 20 characters or watch the fun unfold in front of you. There will also be delicious holiday food. Register HERE.

 

German Baroque Christmas

Date: Sunday, December 18th

Time: 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Location: Holy Cross Catholic Church (405 West Clark Street, Champaign)

Cost: $20 per person, $10 per student

This great Champaign/Urbana tradition features a medley of favorite traditional holiday songs from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and more classics. Join in the music with audience participation. The carols will be performed by the University High School Madrigals. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Garage Sale for Uni High’s Habitat for Humanity Club

Need inexpensive gifts for the holidays?  Check out the Garage Sale at Uni High. The sale will take place From 8am to 1pm in the basement of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Champaign. Clarksdale MS is one of the poorest areas in the country, and is in desperate need of better housing. Uni High’s club supports the Habitat for Humanity affiliate there.  This is one of their biggest fundraisers. 

​Holiday Wonderland

Lincoln Square Mall - 201 Lincoln Square, Urbana, IL

Roberta Morris and the American Cancer Society host this special viewing of the biggest Christmas Village display in the Midwest. There are over 500 Department 56 lighted houses and accessories.  Best of all, it's free.  Go to Lincoln square and walk through the Holiday Wonderland with your family.  There will also be an interactive village for kids.

The 2nd Annual Light Up McFerren Park Christmas Light Display

786 W Elm St. Hoopeston IL

This year the City of Hoopeston added several new displays throughout the park.  Visitors drive the mile long loop at McFerren Park and view the incredible light display. Tens of thousands of lights guarantee a night you won’t forget. View the displays every evening, now through Jan.3, from sundown until 11 p.m. at McFerren Park. Admission is free.

Calls From Santa

What if your child could talk to the Big Jolly man himself?  That can actually happen!  For over 20 years, the Champaign Park District has been offering free calls from Santa to Champaign-Urbana children. 

This year, calls will be made on Dec. 9 between 6-8 p.m. The deadline to register is Dec. 8 by 5 p.m.

Santa Train

Gibson City Railroad Station

This year the Santa train will be stopping at the Gibson City Railroad Station on December 12 sometime between 8 am and 11 am.  

No tickets are necessary.  Show up...and wait.  Santa will be there, there is singing and candy and it's been rumored that Mrs. Claus is making the trip this year.  Don't forget you camera and maybe some hot chocolate!  Regular railroad operations may cause delays, thus the big time slot.   

Thanksgiving Events This Week!

PARADE OF LIGHTS

It’s not officially the holiday season until Santa makes his way through the streets of Downtown Champaign. This area favorite features pre-parade entertainment; free hot chocolate and performances as well as floats, marching bands, and of course Santa Claus himself. The event concludes with the lighting of the Downtown Christmas Tree in the One Main Plaza.

Experience the Snow Globe in the Orpheum Theatre.  The event takes place immediately after The Parade of Lights! You'll have a ball, literally.  Expect snowballs, indoor sledding, ice fishing, holiday crafts, and story telling!  INDOORS!!!!  Remember, you probably shouldn't throw snowballs inside your own home!
