Champaign/Urbana Voted #4 Best City for Millennials

Move over New York, there is a new kid on the block!  Cities like New York and Washington DC have long attracted young-educated professionals but a new report by the American Institute For Economic Research ranks the top destinations for young college graduates, based on economic and quality of life factors important to young people and guess what...We're # 4!!! 

The top three factors:  

  • High density of people with a College Degree
  • Low unemployment rate
  • Ability to get around without a car

Other factors included were: average salary, cost of rent, competition for jobs, bars and restaurants per 1,000 residents and racial/ethnic diversity.  Read the full article at Business Insider. 

Ofcourse it comes as no surprise to the 205,000 that already live here; living comfortably for around $815 a month, while the average salary for new graduates is $47,121.  With a large variety of job opportunities and a plethora of new start ups; Millennials are moving to Champaign to start lives.  There are tons of new jobs and businesses, successful start-ups and great careers in the Technology field, but it's not all work and no play.  You'll find a healthy balance of both.  There is always something to do here.  You get the best of urban living in a friendly smaller city; a world class university, an extensive park system, a a vibrant downtown, festivals, an award winning library, diverse Museums, with art and diversity few cities of our size can compete with. Oh and our water has been ranked best in the country...twice.  What's not to love?
