Father's Day Weekend at Monticello Railway

Dates: Saturday, June 17th & Sunday, June 18th

Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Location: Monticello Railway Museum (992 Iron Horse Place, Monticello)

Hop aboard a vintage train with the family this weekend in Monticello. Each ride runs approximately 1 hour. You may board at the main Museum site (Nelson Crossing) or downtown Monticello (Wabash Depot). After the ride, check out all the fun train exhibits in the museum. The best part? Dads ride FREE this weekend with the purchase on a paid fare!

 

Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade

Dates: Saturday, June 17th & Sunday, June 18th

Times: 11:30 am (Saturday & Sunday), 10:00 pm (Saturday)

Location: The Art Theater Co-op (126 West Church Street, Champaign)

Watch Indiana Jones on a great adventure with his own father during the special Father’s Day screenings of this Steven Spielberg film. Bring your dad and snack on some yummy popcorn during this fun movie.

 

Sholem Father's Day Celebration

Date: Sunday, June 18th

Time: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm

Location: Sholem Aquatic Center (2205 Sangamon Drive)

Enjoy a fun filled day at the pool! Along with all the regular water attractions at the center, this day will feature a “Hop & Flop Daddy Drop” cannonball contest, “Draw your Dad” picture contest, and half priced rootbeer floats! Dads get in FREE with one paid child admission.

 

Sounds at Sunset Concert Series

Date: Sunday, June 18th

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Toalson Park (502 Bardeen Lane, Champaign)

Celebrate dad in beautiful Toalson Park with a fantastic performance by Katie Flynn! This great jazz singer hails from Champaign. Pack a picnic with all of dad’s favorite food and beverages and enjoy a relaxing evening with live music.

Enjoy the summer weather and all the talent that our area has to offer at fantastic community events this Friday and Saturday! Whether you are looking for great live music, some recreational fun, or a sampling of delicious food and beverages, you will find the perfect event to attend this weekend!

 

Friday Night Live!

Date: Friday, June 9th

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Downtown Champaign

Come to the first of this year’s Friday Night Live! in Champaign. Enjoy a wide variety of live music throughout the downtown area. Whether you love folk, blues, pop, rock, or jazz, you will find a band to dance the evening away to this Friday. The concerts will take place at the intersections of Walnut & Chester, Neil & Park, and Neil & Church (One Main Plaza).

 

Meadowbrook Full Moon Night Hike

Date: Friday, June 9th

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Meadowbrook Park (520 County Road 1400 North, Urbana)

Get active this Friday evening during this fun moonlight bike ride. The 22 mile round trip ride will follow low traffic country roads between the park and Sidney Dairy Barn for an ice cream social. Lights are required to participate.

 

Uncork Urbana Wine Festival

Date: Saturday, June 10th

Time: 3:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Location: Meadowbrook Park (520 County Road 1400 North, Urbana)

Head to the park for the most delicious wines that Illinois has to offer. There will also be delicious food from your favorite local chefs and great live music. Tickets are $15 per person (ages 21+) and $5 per person (ages 6-20). Children 5 and under are FREE. Purchase tickets in advance HERE or on the day of!

 

StreetFest

Date: Saturday, June 10th

Time: 7:00 pm - 12:00 am

Location: Downtown Champaign

The intersection of Neil Street & Main Street will be filled with music this Saturday night by Mank N’ Sass, Church Booty, and Davina and the Vagabonds. Stop by your favorite downtown spots for food and drinks as you listen to these great Champaign-Urbana bands.

Ride in the 1st Annual C-U Food Cruise this Saturday!

Celebrate National Bike Month and all the delicious cuisine Champaign/Urbana has to offer during the inaugural C-U Food Cruise! Grab your bike, helmet, and family and hit the road as you cruise along Champaign/Urbana tasting great bites at some of your favorite local establishments this Saturday, May 20th!

 

Everyone will ride within guided groups. No matter what your skill level or preference, there is a perfect tour for you! Select one of the following 7 tours to participate in for the C-U Food Cruise:

 

“SWEET” Tour | Champaign Family Friendly | 13.4 miles | 3 stops

“MILD” Tour | Family Friendly Beginner/Intermediate | 16.3 miles | 5 stops

“HONEY” Tour | Urbana Intermediate | 17.6 miles | 5 stops

“BUFFALO” Tour | Champaign Intermediate | 18 miles | 5 stops

“ZESTY” Tour | Urbana Advanced | 18.6 miles | 5 stops

“SPICY” Rider Tour | Champaign Advanced | 15.5 miles | 5 stops

“HOT” Tour | Experienced All Vendors | 28.5 miles | 8 stops

All groups should meet at Hessel Park (1401 Grandview Drive, Champaign) at 2:00 pm. Tours will leave at 2:30 pm. Each tour will last between 3.5 to 5 hours. For rides that will be out after sunset, a bicycle light is required. Every tour will end at Jarling’s Custard (309 West Kirby Avenue, Champaign).

Grand Reopening of the Champaign County History Museum!

Come celebrate the history of our county at the Grand Reopening of the Champaign County History Museum (102 East University Avenue)! On Saturday, April 29th, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, the museum will be reopening its doors after 18 months to showcase its new and improved renovations!

 

Champaign Mayor Deb Feinen will kick the festivities off at 10:00 am with a ribbon cutting. Stop by the museum throughout the day to enjoy tours, children’s crafts, balloons, and free popcorn from the beautiful Popcorn Wagon. The museum is featuring four new, interesting exhibits, including When We Went to War, Champaign County History Uncrated, A Second Home: 150 Years of Student Living at the University of Illinois, and The Art of Louise Woodroofe. Abraham Lincoln will be “visiting” with museum guests throughout the day as well.

 


The Champaign County History Museum’s mission is “to discover, collect, preserve, exhibit, study and interpret objects relating to the history of Champaign County, and to provide educational programs about the County’s heritage and the Museum’s collections.” Let’s celebrate the much deserved renovations to the museum and celebrate all that the organization does throughout the years to keep the history of our wonderful communities alive!

Illinois Marathon This Weekend in Champaign!

It’s time to lace up your running shoes for the 2017 Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon! Enjoy a weekend, Thursday, April 20th through Saturday, April 22nd, of races and fun. Whether you are participating as a runner/walker or simply spectating, this weekend in Champaign is filled with healthy, family fun!

Celebrate some of the best films ever made at the the best films ever made at the University of Illinois College of Media’s 19th Annual Roger Ebert's Film Festival 2017! This incredible annual event is a favorite in Champaign/Urbana. The festival is taking place Wednesday, April 19th through Sunday, April 23rd at the beautiful Virginia Theatre (203 West Park Avenue, Champaign).

 

The Pulitzer Prize winning film critic Roger Ebert founded the festival in 1999 to celebrate past films that deserve more recognition. A native of Urbana and a University of Illinois graduate, Ebert believed it was important to offer the community a world class film festival every year. Now in its 19th year, the festival continues to delight audiences. Special guests, such as actors, directors, producers, and writers, attend the screenings and provide in depth panel discussions for audiences to enjoy. Check out all the films being offered at this year’s EbertFest!

This four day celebration is a county-wide celebration with over 100 venues participating, featuring the work of our own local weavers, painters, photographers, sculptors...as well as musicians, actors, dancers and other performers!
