Kickoff for this year’s Fighting Illini Football Season on September 1st might still seem like a long ways off for us in Champaign/Urbana but you can start gearing up for your hometown team next week!

 

 

Training camp for Illinois Football begins on Monday, July 31st. All practices are open to the public and FREE to attend. Head on down to the Campus Rec Fields to see this year’s team get in shape for the upcoming season. Click HERE for the full schedule.


 

Want to get to know the team better? Come to Movie Night at Memorial Stadium, hosted by Illini Athletics. Enjoy an evening with friends and family on Sunday, July 30th, on the field of Memorial Stadium (1402 South 1st Street). Get your favorite players’ autographs starting at 5:15 pm. Then find the perfect spot on the field or in the stands to enjoy a showing of Disney’s Moana on the stadium’s big screen at 6:15 pm. Admission this fun community event is FREE! Fans are encouraged to bring their own blanket and pack a picnic dinner for the event. There will be food and beverages available for purchase. The doors at Gate 24 will open at 5:00 pm for the event.

 

Don your best Fighting Illini gear and get in the spirit for the upcoming season with your favorite team!

Live Music and Good Times OUTSIDE at Research Park!

Head on down to the beautiful University of Illinois on Friday, July 21st, for the 2017 OUTSIDE Concert at the Research Park! Presented by the Center for the Performing Arts, Fox/Atkins Development, LLC, and the University of Illinois, this favorite, FREE concert series brings incredible live music, fresh food, sustainable practices, and community development to the people of Champaign/Urbana. Come enjoy the beautiful summer weather and celebrate the University of Illinois’s Sesquicentennial in peaceful Research Park.  

 

Find the perfect spot on the grass before Mank & Sass hit the stage at 6:30 pm. Bassist Jared Manker (Mank) and guitarist Sara Siders (Sass) bring incredible acoustic funk and blues to audiences in the area. Following behind this favorite local duo will be Elvin Bishop Big Fun Trio at 7:30 pm. This national blues and R&B trio features bassist Bob Welsh Jr., drummer Willy Jordan, and legendary guitarist Elvin Bishop. It will surely be a performance that you do not want to miss!

 

The concert will take place in Research Park, just south of the Atkins Building (First Street & St. Mary’s Road). Free parking will be available in the south parking lot of the Caterpillar Building (1901 South First Street).

 

Along with incredible live music, explore the Green Fair with booths and exhibits by the Allerton Park and Conference Center, UI Extension units, and Urbana Business Association. Enjoy children’s activities hosted by Soccer Planet. Enter the raffle for the the chance to win a bike from Champaign Cycle. Dine on some delicious food from Chester's BBQ, Cracked, Dave's Dogs, Hendrick House, Kona Ice, or Piato.

Champaign County Fair Fast Approaching!

County fairs are a great summertime tradition and there are none better than our beloved Champaign County Fair!!! Mark your calendars for Friday, July 21st, through Saturday, July 29th. Spend 9 days celebrating our great Champaign/Urbana community with family fun and amusement!

 

 

Full Fair Schedule

Head on down to the Champaign County Fairgrounds (1302 North Coler Avenue, Urbana) for all the festivities. There is something for everyone on the Midway! Dine on some classic festival food. Take a spin on some of the amusement rides or win prizes playing carnival games. Check out all of the amazing local vendors and exhibits. Children will love the Kiddie Land, animal shows, and much more! On Friday July 28th, see country star Chris Young headline at the main stage. The concert begins at 7:00 pm and also features Drew Baldridge and Kassi Ashton. Purchase Tickets Here!  For additional excitement, head over to the Grandstand for Motor Madness, the demolition derby, motorcycle races, and so much more!

Now through the end of September, have fun throughout Champaign and be entered to win prizes!

Celebrate Freedom in Champaign/Urbana!

Celebrate Independence Day throughout the Champaign/Urbana area! It is time to show off your patriotic pride as we celebrate our nation’s founding and the freedoms that we enjoy everyday as citizens of this great country! There are too many fun activities planned for this 4th of July weekend for us to list them all! But, there are 2 annual community festivals that cannot be missed!  Head to Rantoul and Champaign this holiday to have the ultimate patriotic fun!

 

RANTOUL

Rantoul Freedom Celebration

When: Thursday, June 29th - Tuesday, July 4th

Where: Throughout Rantoul

Rantoul offers a full weekend of activities to celebrate Independence Day. Enjoy a carnival in Wabash Park from Thursday through Saturday. Check out a car show on Saturday and Monster Truck Show on Sunday. The following day bring the family for more fun at the Rantoul National Aviation Center. Watch the excitement of monster trucks or participate in the 5K. There will also be food, live music, inflatables, firework display, and many more activities available all day. Wind down the holiday weekend on Tuesday with a delicious pancake breakfast sponsored by the Rotary from 7:00 am until 11:00 am. The 4th of July parade begins at 9:40 am so be sure to claim your spot to watch all the fun!

 

CHAMPAIGN

Champaign County Freedom Celebration

When: Tuesday, July 4th | 11:05 am (Parade) | 7:00 pm (Evening Program)

Where: Downtown Champaign

This amazing annual event has something for everyone to celebrate Independence Day. Start the day off participating in the Youth Run or 5K Race/Walk which takes participants along the parade route. After being active in the morning, find your spot along the parade route. The parade starts at 11:05 am and will feature great patriotic bands, live music, and much more. Finish off your celebration at the evening program which starts at 7:00 pm and will be located along Kirby Avenue. The festivities include musical entertainment, kids activities, and a great fireworks display at the end of the night.

Friday Night Live!

Date: Friday, June 9th

Location: Downtown Champaign

Come to the first of this year’s Friday Night Live! in Champaign. Enjoy a wide variety of live music throughout the downtown area. Whether you love folk, blues, pop, rock, or jazz, you will find a band to dance the evening away to this Friday. The concerts will take place at the intersections of Walnut & Chester, Neil & Park, and Neil & Church (One Main Plaza).

 

Meadowbrook Full Moon Night Hike

Date: Friday, June 9th

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Meadowbrook Park (520 County Road 1400 North, Urbana)

Get active this Friday evening during this fun moonlight bike ride. The 22 mile round trip ride will follow low traffic country roads between the park and Sidney Dairy Barn for an ice cream social. Lights are required to participate.

 

Uncork Urbana Wine Festival

Date: Saturday, June 10th

Time: 3:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Location: Meadowbrook Park (520 County Road 1400 North, Urbana)

Head to the park for the most delicious wines that Illinois has to offer. There will also be delicious food from your favorite local chefs and great live music. StreetFest

Date: Saturday, June 10th

Ride in the 1st Annual C-U Food Cruise this Saturday!

Celebrate National Bike Month and all the delicious cuisine Champaign/Urbana has to offer during the inaugural C-U Food Cruise! Grab your bike, helmet, and family and hit the road as you cruise along Champaign/Urbana tasting great bites at some of your favorite local establishments this Saturday, May 20th!

 

Everyone will ride within guided groups. No matter what your skill level or preference, there is a perfect tour for you! Select one of the following 7 tours to participate in for the C-U Food Cruise:

 

“SWEET” Tour | Champaign Family Friendly | 13.4 miles | 3 stops

“MILD” Tour | Family Friendly Beginner/Intermediate | 16.3 miles | 5 stops

“HONEY” Tour | Urbana Intermediate | 17.6 miles | 5 stops

“BUFFALO” Tour | Champaign Intermediate | 18 miles | 5 stops

“ZESTY” Tour | Urbana Advanced | 18.6 miles | 5 stops

All groups should meet at Hessel Park (1401 Grandview Drive, Champaign) at 2:00 pm. Tours will leave at 2:30 pm. Each tour will last between 3.5 to 5 hours. For rides that will be out after sunset, a bicycle light is required. Every tour will end at Jarling’s Custard (309 West Kirby Avenue, Champaign).
