It's finally here! One of Champaign/Urbana's most anticipated events, the Boneyard Arts Festival! I'm even more excited this year because I am sponsoring an event that is near and dear to my heart...the Center City Art Walk Tours

The City Art Walk Tours will be of select Boneyard Arts Festival venues in Center City as well as Public Art League installations. All Tour participants will have the opportunity to view the art at venues Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, and meet some of the artists that have their work on display.

Friday’s tour includes:  the 40North offices, WEFT, Cracked Glass and the Lincoln Building artist studios. Tour participants will meet Kelly Eddington (the Boneyard Arts Festival signature artist) and Lisa Kesler as well as attend the Cracked Glass opening reception for their displaying artists. Saturday’s tour will begin at 2 p.m. and will include visits to Jane Addams Bookshop, Skins n Tins, the Lincoln Building artist studios and Flatland Gallery. Tour participants will meet author, Matt Banach, and artists Lisa Kesler and Dirt Dorner.

The Center City Art Walk Tours are free to the public but registration is required. To register visit champaigncenter.com and click on the Art Walk Tours image on the homepage.

If you've never had a chance to participate in the Boneyard Arts Festival, I'll give you a quick overview: This is a celebration of all the different Arts Genre's, by 100's of local artists and artists from around the state that come to showcase and sell their art at different venue's all around the Champaign/Urbana area.

The Goals of the Festival are:

  1. Provide opportunities for artists of all disciplines, media and levels of expertise to share and sell their work with the greater community and its visitors
  2. Demonstrate the value of collaboration among individuals, organizations and businesses
  3. Illuminate the economic impact of the arts on local business
  4. Demonstrate the effectiveness of utilizing art to increase foot traffic in and around participating venues, as well as to enhance the environment in public and private spaces
  5. Promote the cultural vibrancy of our community -- a great place to live and visit
  6. Bring students, residents and visitors together through the arts
  7. Provide an occasion, through the arts, to both express and reflect upon who and what we are as individuals and as a community
  8. Celebrate the many unique cultural traditions within Champaign County

So you see, this is a spectacular community event you won't want to miss! Pick a day, or go to both...but don't miss what this fantastic event has to offer!

I'm so excited about my new Walking Tours of Champaign City Parks, along with my favorite pals...Simon & Pharis;  my two Spaniels!

Springtime in Champaign is just lovely, and having the company of you and your pups along with us in the fresh morning air in the awesome city parks is such a treat.  And, we all get to spend some quality time with our pets, getting to know more of our Champaign neighbors, and seeing more of the beautiful parks that our great city of has to offer.  Doesn't get much better than that!

This week we'll be meeting on Monday, March 23rd at 7:00 am at West Side Park, northeast corner. I'll be giving a little history and some background information on the park as we walk and then we can stop for coffee and something to eat when we are finished.  Of course we'll find one of the wonderful area restaurants that accepts our furry friends on their patio too.

I look forward to seeing you Monday!  ( I'm getting the..."WOOF, WOOF" from Simon & Pharis too!)
