Grand Reopening of the Champaign County History Museum!

by Rose Price

Come celebrate the history of our county at the Grand Reopening of the Champaign County History Museum (102 East University Avenue)! On Saturday, April 29th, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, the museum will be reopening its doors after 18 months to showcase its new and improved renovations!

Champaign Mayor Deb Feinen will kick the festivities off at 10:00 am with a ribbon cutting. Stop by the museum throughout the day to enjoy tours, children’s crafts, balloons, and free popcorn from the beautiful Popcorn Wagon. The museum is featuring four new, interesting exhibits, including When We Went to War, Champaign County History Uncrated, A Second Home: 150 Years of Student Living at the University of Illinois, and The Art of Louise Woodroofe. Abraham Lincoln will be “visiting” with museum guests throughout the day as well.

The Champaign County History Museum’s mission is “to discover, collect, preserve, exhibit, study and interpret objects relating to the history of Champaign County, and to provide educational programs about the County’s heritage and the Museum’s collections.” Let’s celebrate the much deserved renovations to the museum and celebrate all that the organization does throughout the years to keep the history of our wonderful communities alive!
