by Rose Price

Halloween is here! Time to don your best costume, grab your goodie bag, and stock up on all the candy! Each of the communities in our area are having special trick or treating hours on Halloween night. Worried that won’t be enough candy?! Be sure to check out the other fun trick or treating opportunities on the days leading up to this festive holiday!

Community Trick or Treat Hours

Tuesday, October 31st

Special Trick or Treating Events

Friday, October 27th

Sunday, October 29th

Monday, October 30th

Tuesday, October 31st

Make sure everyone has a happy and safe Halloween by following these trick or treating safety tips!

  • All trick-or-treaters should walk in groups and not alone.

  • Young children should always be accompanied by their parents or another adult.

  • If you are going to be out after dark, make sure that everyone is visible in your group. Be sure to carry a flashlight. Wear light colored costumes or add reflective tape generously to costumes.

  • Costumes should fit properly to avoid any tripping hazards. Costumes should also not restrict vision.

  • Only walk while trick-or-treating. Stay on sidewalks whenever possible and only cross streets at designated crosswalks or intersections. Leave bicycles or skateboards at home.

  • Review with your children the importance of watching for traffic. If you are a motorist on Halloween night, be on the lookout for children.

  • Examine all of your children's candy before letting them eat any. Only keep candy that is wrapped or packaged.

11 Small Towns Where Everyone Knows Your Name

by Rose Price

Is there anything better than walking into your local coffee shop and having the barista write your name on the cup without having to ask you? Ok ok, I get that this may seem trivial, but you do have to admit it is a wonderful feeling when the locals in your community all know you.  This month onlyinyourstate.com published a list about “11 small towns where everyone knows your name” in Illinois, and we were thrilled to see Tuscola and Monticello, two towns in our community, named!

But what makes these towns so special?

The list is as follows:

  1. Clarendon Hills, located outside of Chicago in Dupage County.

  2. Casey, known for its large construction projects.

  3. Cherry Valley, located in Boone County with a population of 3,000.

  4. Winchester, located in Scott County and known for its gorgeous courthouse.

  5. TUSCOLA, located in Scott County, and is our backyard, and known for its great outlet mall. Click here to view current homes for sale in Tuscola.

  6. MONTICELLO, is also located in our community! Click here to view current homes for sale in Monticello.

  7. Milford, located in Iroquois County and has a population of only 800.

  8. Ladd, located in Bureau County and was a former mining town.

  9. Hebron, located in McHenry County with a population of 1200.

  10. Galena, may get a lot of visitors but the locals still know you well.

  11. Benld, located in Macoupin County and is known as one of a small group of towns where an object was hit by a meteor.
